In 2004 I applied for and was awarded a public art contract for Seattle's Public Water Department, to install two artworks in their Operations Control Center. The artworks were installed on the ceilings of the buildings two employee kitchen / lounge areas. They were both custom made from copper tubing, glass panels, LED arrays and custom electronics.
The first installation had blue glass panels, each with a micro cameras that generated a low res approximation of the movement of people below. The effect was that of water undulated across the white LED panels as people used the kitchen area below.

The second installation was made of clear frosted glass panels and arrays of colored LED's, each with a PIR motion sensor that triggered the panel to fade between each of the colors. As people walked back and forth below, the colors cycled to create unique patterns.
To create these artworks took 2 years. In addition to my own work on this project I commissioned specialists in metal work, glass forming, structural engineering and electrical engineering. To communicate my designs to each, I created detailed specifications and technical documentation.
Below are some examples of design specs used for the construction of the copper tubing and panel supports.
